About this workshop

Pattern libraries are a great way to manage front-end code, but they don’t just appear out of nowhere. It can be very challenging to take a modular approach if you’re used to thinking in pages.

At Clearleft, we’ve seen the value of pattern libraries as deliverables, and as a tool for creating shared understanding within organisations.

This workshop will guide you through the process of breaking down your interfaces into discrete components. You will learn how to build robust, reusable snippets of HTML and CSS that you can recombine in multiple ways.

Who is it suitable for?

This workshop is ideal for teams of designers and front-end developers, but it’s also valuable for product managers.

A good working knowledge of HTML and CSS is helpful, but not essential for all of the workshop exercises.

By the end of this workshop you will have:

  • built a solid understanding of how to build and maintain a pattern library for your organisation’s web presence.
  • understood the benefits of working with a pattern library over designing for pages.
  • learned how to build robust, reusable snippets of HTML and CSS.
